Elizabeth Hester, Executive Director, was a soloist with the Raleigh Dance Theatre, the affiliate company of the Carolina Ballet. She studied at the Atlanta School of Ballet, the Walnut Hill School of the Arts, NC School of the Arts, East Carolina Dance Program, and The Richmond Ballet. Ms. Hester is a former faculty member of the Raleigh School of Ballet. Ms. Swinson also holds B.S. in Civil Engineering from North Carolina State University. elizabeth@wilmingtonschoolofballet.com

Nicole Failing, Administrative/Summer Director, is a former member of the Greensboro Ballet and the Butler Ballet in Indianapolis, IN. She holds a B.F.A. in Dance Performance from the Jordan College of Fine Arts at Butler University. Ms. Failing has also studied with Virginia School of the Arts, Ballet Internationale, Joffrey School of Ballet, and the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Stella Rosialana Vives Johnson, Faculty, danced with the National Ballet of Panama. Mrs. Johnson studied with Nicholai Morosov and Ludmila Morkovina, both graduates and professors of the Vaganova Ballet Academy and the Maly Theatre in St. Petersburg, Rusiia. Mrs. Johnson also studied with Ginela Vasquez, graduate of the Royal Ballet School and Protege of Dame Margot Fonteyn.

Heather Wells, Faculty, has studied dance in Raleigh, Atlanta, New York, and Paris. Ms. Wells has been teaching ballet, jazz, and modern in the Wilmington area for over eight years. She was certified by Dance Masters of America in 2001. Ms. Wells has a degree in Marine Biology and works for the North Carolina National Estuarine Research Reserve.

Amanda Oakley, Faculty, is a graduate of the North Carolina School of the Arts with a BFA in Contemporary Dance.  She was selected to attend the “Bessie Schonberg Choreographers and Dancers Residency” at The Yard on Martha’s Vineyard in 2001. In 2002, Amanda made her New York debut in a collective show called “New Stuff” in lower Manhattan and returned to New York City in January 2003 to perform at the Japan Society with Satoshi Haga & Dancers. She has taught at East Carolina University and the South Carolina Governor’s School, as well as at studios in Greenville, Chapel Hill, and Jacksonville. 

 

Stacey Slichter, Faculty, began her dance training in Miami, Florida under the direction of Gloria Gaither, Victoria Leigh, and Lynne Dreeson. She attended and graduated from the

acclaimed Harid Conservatory in Boca Raton, Florida studying with Olivier Pardina,

Margory Tallchief, Demetrius Klein, Maria Tallchief, and David Howard, among others.

Ms. Slichter spent her summers on full scholarship at The Houston Ballet Academy. She

has performed with The Sarasota Ballet of Florida, The Sarasota Opera, Ballet Eddy

Toussaint, U.S.A., Ballet Memphis, and most recently, with The Atlanta Ballet. Ms.

Slichter has also guest performed with North Atlanta Dance Theatre, Brooks and

Company, Bacchus Productions, A Room To Move, The Atlanta Lyric (West Side Story),

and Statesboro Youth Ballet. Ms. Slichter has enjoyed teaching the art of ballet to all

levels and all ages for the past ten years. She had the opportunity to guest teach for The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, in New York City in the summer of 2006.

Gregg Saulnier, Guest Faculty, began his dance career with Festival Ballet Providence under the Direction of Christine Hennessy.  He later joined Ballet Internationale, Indianapolis under the direction of Russian Ballet stars Eldar Aliev and Irina Kolpakova.  His most recent dance credits are with Cincinnati Ballet where he retired from full time performing in 2004.  Mr. Saulnier has had the privilege of working with some great artists including Kirk Peterson, Raymond Lukens, Irina Chistyakova, Bart Cook, Sir Frederick Franklin, Val Caniparoli and Devon Carney.  Gregg was appointed to Director of the Otto M. Budig Academy of Cincinnati Ballet where he served from August, 2004 until October, 2005.

LeeAnn Baker, Preschool Art and Music Specialist/Music Together Instructer, has been involved with music in Wilmington for most of her life. In 1986, she completed a BA in Fine Arts from UNCW and later obtained a certification in music education, also from UNCW. LeeAnn has taught classroom music to students age 3 through 8th grade.  She taught at Myrtle Grove Christian School four years and in New Hanover County Elementary Schools for six years.  LeeAnn is registered to teach Music Together. 

Christine Kennedy, Lead Preschool Teacher, has been working with young children for over 7 years. After graduating from college with an associate's degree in Early Childhood Education, Christine spent the next 5 years as a preschool teacher in New York. A stay-at-home mom for 2 years after moving to Wilmington, NC, Christine was anxious to get back to teaching and joined our program in 2006.

Sarah McAlear, Lead Preschool Teacher, has a background in classical ballet, taking numerous examinations with the Royal Academy of Dance in London. After attending nursing school, Sarah lived in Germany, working as a nanny. After moving to the United States, Sarah sought a position working with children and became involved with the Wilmington School of Ballet. In addition to serving as a lead teacher with the preschool, she teaches ballet and tap.
