Why Dance with us?

  1. The Wilmington Ballet Company is a fiscally solid company that is built on a very stable 20 year history of community involvement. The company works with many local schools, community organizations, and arts organizations.  The foundation of the community gives the professionals great appreciation and opportunity

  2. The Repetoire of the Wilmington Ballet Company is both innovative and classical. The three major season performances (Nutcracker, Adventures in Ballet, and Celebrations of the Classics) offer three totally unique opportunities. Nutcracker is a major staging production with huge effects and grand sets. Adventures in ballet is an orginal contemporary work where a  children’s classic literature brought to life through film, multi-media arts (puppetry, opera, acting) and dance, and Celebrations of the Classics is a traditional classic ballet.

  3. Additional artistic opportunities are made available to every dancer  -  Wilmington Dance Festival and Arts Sensation gives dancers the opportunities to participate in cutting edge work that takes on an array of adult themes. Collaborations with Cameron Art Museum give the opportunity to explore any type of genre or expression. Dancers can utilize these opportunities both as performers or as choreographers.

  4. All Dancers are valued deeply and diversity in body type is embraced-  Wilmington Ballet Company is a family atmosphere ballet that encourages the health and well being of all of it’s members. Ours is a culture of discipline and kindness. All dancers are expected to model these values to the younger corps of students and all leaders are expected to embody them in their interaction with dancers. Respect of each other is a core value. All levels of the company are expected to look to better themselves, work collectively to better the company, and seek ways to better each other.

  5. All trainees are guaranteed a minimum of one year as a professional - this embodies a critical difference between the Wilmington Ballet Company and most other professional companies. Trainees make a major commitment to a company by paying tuition and relocating to a new city. WBC believes that it should make a mutual commitment to anyone it brings into the organization. Therefore, if a trainee completes their training contract, they are assured to have the experience of being a professional.

  6. Our company is committed to offering opportunities for outside growth of a dancer - choreography, studio management training, grant writing, community outreach organization, rehearsal management, event planning, theater management,  and more. These are some of the opportunities that WBC offers to dancers to learn and grow in auxiliary parts of dance as a profession.

  7. Excellence in daily technique training is central to all levels of the Company - all dancers are expected to participate in daily technique class and daily pointe class.
